ADJUSTING TO TIME CHANGE IN NORTHERN CYPRUS

ADJUSTING TO TIME CHANGE IN NORTHERN CYPRUS

The crawl in of winter in Cyprus usually ushers in a time change; the clock is moved backward or forward by one hour, same was the case this year. When local standard time was about to reach 4:00:00 am, clocks were turned backward by 1 hour, sunrise and sunset were about 1 hour earlier on Oct 29, 2017 than the day before. Although this is a common occurrence in the beautiful Island of North Cyprus, most of its locals and residents have still not adjusted to the change.

For Eastern Mediterranean University students especially, adjusting to the time change usually proves a bit difficult because they must re-adjust their schedules to meet up with the new time change. Speaking to Stephanie on campus, an International Relations student she said, “Due to the time change, I now have to hurry up to do the things I need to do during the day because the sun sets earlier, and it gets dark too quick”. Patience, a Pharmacy student who spoke to Gundem’s correspondent said, “The time change has also brought about a change of the weather, it is now cold and waking up for an 8:30 class is a big struggle”.

“I prefer the 2 hour time because it is a bit more balanced, there’s no need to rush your daily routine because it doesn’t get dark on time, but with the 1 hour change, it feels like the sun is running away (laughs), this is what Fahda, a Pharmacy Pakistani student had to say.

Adjusting to time change is never easy on anyone, and we sincerely hope that everyone finds a way to fit their schedules into the new time.
