Jolly EKHATOR
Early morning on a Monday as I
was on my way to my faculty, trying to board a
bus that Eastern Mediterranean University
provided for students to meet up with classes
everyday. This one was to take me to my
magnificent faculty.
Two friends of mine came along
to board the same bus. We have been friends
since 2006 when we came to study here in North
Cyprus and due to our schedules; we don't see
each other often. One asked me "What are you
doing here Jerry?" I responded I was waiting for
a ride to South campus. "South Campus!" he
exclaimed , and then there were some minutes of
silence. I was about to ask why the awkward
silence when both of them looked at each other’s
faces and told me "What are you talking about?
Don't you know there is a green line separating
North and South Cyprus ?" "Come on get serious"
the other said. Then I realized that many people
were still ignorant of the north and south
campuses of this noble institution.
The South campus of the Eastern
Mediterranean University is located on a
beautiful landscape and well-designed layout, as
you drive along the one way leading to the
prestigious Faculty of Communication and Media
Studies, as well as the School of Foreign
Languages. At the end of the same road, you come
across the elementary school of our university.
The Faculty of Communication
and Media Studies has four departments, namely
1. Journalism.
2. Public Relation and
Advertising.
3. Radio, TV and Film.
4. Visual Arts and Communication
Design.
It is an established fact that
there are only two faculties in EMU, FCMS AND
OTHERS.
This is because it is the one
faculty where students and lecturers have
English language speaking as the other of the
day. The atmosphere is conducive for learning
and very friendly with the well-trained
lecturers that are always willing to know the
progress of the students by encouraging every
student to work hard on their studies.
One lovable thing about the
faculty is that when you walk into their office
here in FCMS you are always sure to hear "COME
IN ", and they very willing to assist you with
warmness and render you qualitative service.
Since communication has to do
with giving and receiving and because the
University is an international university and an
English university too, one can always feel the
joy and influence of English language as you
approach the campus.
Furthermore, there are several
activities currently going on, on this same
campus, such as underwater photography, which
motivates many international students in taking
their summer school in the faculty based on
foreign exchange program. It is now open to
every student to participate in this program as
far as they can provide the necessary
requirements and facilities for this program.
It is also important to mention that this
faculty operates the DAU TV, RADIO AKDENIZ AND
THE GUNDEM NEWSPAPER. I mean the faculty is the
hub of activities here in EMU and I am so proud
to be a part of it.
I am sure you agree with me
that the EMU is privileged to have the south
campus housing the FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION and
MEDIA STUDIES as part of the great EMU body. I
sincerely hope that this legacy will continue,
as history will always record the great roles
the Faculty of communication and media studies
has played in the history of EMU.
