NIGHT OF MANY COLORS: EMU INTERNATIONAL OFFICE HOSTS INTERNATIONAL NIGHT

The International Office of Eastern Mediterranean University organized international night yesterday, the 13th of May 2016 to celebrate her international students . The culturally diverse event held at the Central Lecture Hall Square.

Eastern Mediterranean University is a school widely known for its cultural diversity. It is home to international students from a total of 106 countries. Every year, the school’s International Office dedicates a night to showcase the diverse and rich cultures represented in this multicultural institution.

This year, the style of the grand event shifted owing to the change in its regular venue, the Rauf Raif Cultural Center. The organizers incorporated stands which were set up by the various countries represented to display their various cultural handmade crafts. This memorable night had in attendance students and members of staff beautifully dressed in their outstanding and captivating cultural attires to represent their various countries and cultures. .

The event began at 8:46 pm with a rendition of the Turkish anthem led by a Nigerian student, Emmanuel Chinedu. Shortly after the anthem, the Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam gave a welcoming speech to the audience. In his speech; he told the students to ensure they have a good time and also encouraged them to make more international friends. Sponsors of the event were recognized and appreciated with awards for their support and contribution to the event.

The night also witnessed memorable stage performances from different countries, some of them include Kazakhstan, Turkey, Sudan, South America, Iran, Nigeria, South Africa, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Palestine and a host of other countries. A fashion show, flag show and raffle draw were also some of the notable activities for the night. Winners of the raffle draw were indeed excited about their gifts.

Students expressed their excitement about the event and the new venue, saying that the old venue was too small to accommodate a very large crowd and that they look forward to being part of more international nights.

The event was brought to an end at 12:46 am by the International Office Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selcan Timur, who in her speech; thanked all the students and staff in attendance and urged them to always possess a happy vibe. A good time was indeed had by all.
