It is yet another semester and the midterms are around the corner. Every student wants to get the best result at the end and do better than the previous semester. But the problem is most students find it difficult to remember what they have been taught, and some students study and forget what they have read, others find it hard to grasp fully and thoroughly. Now, the question is how prepared are you to enhance your memory retention? If you are one of those students who worry about your comprehension abilities and thinking of ways that can help boost your memory effectively, then worry no more, because there are a lot of scientifically proven memory boosters and they are:

Fruits and Vegetables: A well balanced nutritious and healthy diet has a long list of fresh fruits and vegetables. These foods are extremely beneficial in the proper and healthy functioning of the human body. Red apples contain quercetin, a chemical that helps fight memory loss. Anthocyanin is an antioxidant which prevent lapse in memory it is found in fruits like blueberries. Red onion and grapes contain both quercetin and anthocyanin. Folic acid is another chemical compound that is helpful in preventing as well as treating memory loss. Dark green vegetables like spinach, green turnips lettuce are some of the vegetables rich in folic acid; folic acid is also important for the development of the brain and is hence given as a supplement to pregnant women.

Fish and Nuts: It is also advisable to eat a lot of fish because fish and nuts are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are excellent for the development and functioning of the brain and helps with memory retention. If you don’t like fish you could include flax seeds and flax seed oil in your daily diet to provide your body with sufficient quantity of omega-3 fatty acids.

Honey: Taking honey in the morning can greatly boost your memory power and helps you retain things better. Honey also calms and soothes the nerves which makes it possible for the brain to remain focused and alert. In some cultures, a cup of tea with honey spread baklava (prepared using omega-3 fatty acids rich flax seeds) is given to students the night before an important examination.

In conclusion, eating fruits, vegetables, fish and honey can help boost your memory effectively, don’t forget to always have enough sleep and exercise too. Research suggests that having enough sleep and regular exercise is as important, if not more so, as what you eat when it comes to memory saving lifestyle.
