EMU PhD Student Wins Best Abstract at the International Symposium Communication in the Millennium

The International Symposium Communication in the Millennium is created to establish and continue an international multidisciplinary forum for the development of an innovative and inspiring dialogue among communication scholars and practitioners.

The symposium was founded by Prof. Dr. Erkan Yüksel, Prof. Dr. Maxwell McCombs and Prof. Dr. Serra Görpe and the first Communication in the New Millennium symposium held in Austin in 2003. This year, 2018 marked the 16th Symposium. It was hosted by the Anadolu University in collaboration with the University of Texas and Istanbul University.

The conference which held from the 25th-28thApril had 250 participants in attendance, Eastern Mediterranean University was represented by Kholod Saleh Moh’d Huneiti, and the university not only prides itself in being represented at the symposium but also prides itself in having its representative win the award of the best abstract from the symposium.

The symposium which had the theme, #Communication: Today and Future had 8 keynote speakers, Prof. Dr. Stephen D. Reese from the University of Austin Texas, Dr Sahar Khamis from the University of Maryland, Michael Munnik from Cardiff University, Dr Juliana Abdul Wahab from the Universiti Sians in Malaysia, Pro. Dr. Salma Ghanem from DePaul University and Dr. Ebru Ulusoy from the State University of New York- Farmingdale.

The main idea of the symposium is communication in the new millennium, popular and main issues of the communication field in the new millennium were discussed, Kholod Saleh Moh’d Huneiti who represented the university presented her own research on The Influence of Junk Food Commercials in Cartoon Channels on Children’s Consuming Behavior in Jordan.

The symposium aims to foster and promote work that is intended to make a constructive contribution to the communication field and its development.
