The outbreak of coronavirus pandemic has so far had a significant impact on various socio-economic activities across the world, resulting from the continuous lockdown in the past few weeks. Part of the measures taken to contain further spread in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is the declaration of a partial curfew by the Council of Ministers.
To ease the resultant hardships on students, the Eastern Mediterranean University and other stakeholders, including student societies such as the Nigerian Students Society (NSS) and Voices of International Students (VOIS) introduced a series of relief programs to dispatch food packages to all students living in the university dormitories and off-campus. The announcements were made for interested students to apply for the aid by filling a form on their student portal and via a link provided on the VOIS’s Instagram page. As part of the show of consideration for self-sponsored students who engage in menial jobs to support their studies, EMU Rector’s office recently announced the decision to suspend penalties charges for the March 2020 tuition fee installments until April 2020.
While it is strongly advised to adhere strictly to recommendations for self-isolation and social distancing, the steps taken by EMU have proven to be really helpful to students until normalcy is restored.
