‘Adhere to instructions on Covid-19’ – NSS president advises

In an exclusive interview with Gündem, the EMU chapter President of Nigerian Students Society (NSS), Mr. Ibrahim Muhammad Sagir advised Nigerians and the entire body of international students to obey the rules and regulations as prescribed by the institution and health professionals to prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Recall that countries around the world have enforced total or partial lockdowns on various economic, social, and educational activities since the declaration of Covid-19 as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020. The suspension of academic activities in all schools within the boundaries of TRNC followed the decision taken by the Council of Ministers on March 11, extending for a couple of weeks.

In spite of the numerous supports from the university and government, the NSS and other international students’ societies have additionally made concerted efforts in providing aid materials for their members in the challenging times. Before the pandemic, the NSS cabinet resolved to meet with relevant stakeholders in EMU to discuss how to ease the hardships being faced by students both financially and in relation to the residency permit processes.

“Coronavirus is real, students should stay safe by adhering strictly to the ongoing curfew and other safety measures taken by the university and health authorities”, the President concluded.
